Dragonfly Meadow

This summer, our Dragonfly Meadow is coming to The Sandringham Gardens

From 21st August to 14th September 2025

Tapping House, is honoured to present our Dragonfly Meadow in the beautiful gardens of Sandringham House. A breathtaking installation of 4,000 handcrafted steel dragonflies will commemorate our 40th anniversary and the lives of so many special people we have cared for over the years.

Each dragonfly will represent a life, a memory, a story – offering a powerful way for our community to celebrate or pay tribute to loved ones no longer with us. The display forms part of our 40th anniversary celebrations, honouring four decades of care, compassion, and support for families across Norfolk and North Cambridgeshire.

Whether in remembrance, celebration, or love, your dragonfly will hold a unique place in this powerful and peaceful space of reflection – whilst celebrating the memory of someone special to you.

Celebrate life and remember loved ones

For just £36.50, you can reserve your own limited-edition dragonfly in memory of someone special. Your tribute will join thousands of others in this shared celebration of love and life.

Everyone is welcome to wander through the Meadow. We are delighted that we can offer entry into The Sandringham Gardens with your dragonfly purchase, by kind permission of The Sandringham Estate. The installation will create a quiet, welcoming space where you can take a moment to pause, remember and reflect.

A symbol of hope and transformation

Each dragonfly is a symbol of remembrance – a way to celebrate a life, cherish a memory, or simply say: you are never forgotten.

This 40th anniversary is a milestone for Tapping House. The dragonfly has been chosen not only as a symbol of remembrance but of resilience and transformation. As life changes, often through grief, the dragonfly reminds us to embrace each moment and carry forward the love of those we’ve lost.

Be part of something truly special

Each limited-edition handcrafted dragonfly will be lovingly created by local Eminent Master Blacksmith Nigel Barnett of Fransham Forge and placed in the Dragonfly Meadow at The Sandringham Gardens, a serene and striking display honouring those we carry in our hearts.

How your support helps fund Compassionate Care

Your dragonfly will not only be honouring someone special – but also help provide essential compassionate care to individuals and families during some of life’s most challenging times. Your support enables us to deliver care at home, within our Hospice, and through a range of support services.

Each dragonfly represents a meaningful tribute to someone close to
you and stands as a keepsake of peace and comfort for everyone we care for.

Collecting your Dragonfly

At the end of the installation, your dragonfly will be ready to fly home and yours to keep. A lasting tribute you can place in your garden or home, as a gentle reminder of love that never fades.
Each dragonfly is affixed to a steel pole so they can be easily planted in the ground and they will measure approximately seven inches wide and three feet high.

Eminent Master Blacksmith - Nigel Barnett

Master craftsman Nigel’s career started at an early age, living in view of a steelworks he was fascinated by fire and iron. On leaving school Nigel trained to become a coded welder, working on many of the largest building projects of the early eighties. After mastering the welding of a vast range of materials, he looked for new challenges.

Nigel settled in Norfolk and completed a two-year traditional blacksmith course at Hereford allowing him to reopen a forge at Fransham. The training and standard of work has now earned Nigel the title of Master Blacksmith and he has undertaken many public commissions across the world.

Wherever possible Nigel uses eco-friendly fuels and electric induction heating. This speeds up the forging process which uses green electric energy from wind

The forge is situated within woodland and visitors can enjoy its outside sculpture trail of work by Nigel and his talented team, as well as visit the showroom and shop.
